ORDERS AND THE FOOT THEY ARE CALLED ON

The Position of Attention
i. Purpose – the position of readiness. Used when:
a. speaking to a superior (i.e. officer);
b. you are ready to march, and when you stop marching;
c. during inspections; and
d. during Colours and Sunset.
ii. Things to look for:
a. heels together and in line;
b. feet turned out to form an angle of 30 degrees;
c. body balanced and the weight evenly distributed on both feet;
d. shoulders level and square to the front;
e. thumbs touching the seam of the pant leg and pointing down, knuckles touching the pant leg;
f. arms straight to the side with the elbows and wrists touching the body; and
g. head and eyes straight to the front

Attention to Stand at Ease – “Squad, Stand at – EASE”
i. Purpose – a more comfortable version of Attention which should be used when standing still for longer periods of time.
ii. Things to look for:
a. raise the left foot 15 cm and move it to the left by bending the left knee, keeping the foot and lower leg relaxed;
b. straighten the left leg and place the left foot about 25 cm away from the right foot (or shoulder width apart);
c. as the left foot touches the deck, both arms are moved behind the back;
d. put the right hand in the palm of the left;
e. cross thumbs and straighten fingers;
f. balance body evenly on both feet; and
g. the remainder of the body is the same as for the position of attention.
iii. The timing for this movement is simply, “ONE”, called out as the left foot touches the deck..
ii. Things to look for:

Stand at Ease to Stand Easy – “Squad, Stand – EASY”
i. Purpose – used when it is time for the division to relax. It is only given if the division is standing at ease
ii. Things to look for:
a. close your hands and bring them to the side as in the position of attention;
b. observe a standard pause (1 second); and
c. relax the body - DON’T FALL APART! – no moving your feet or talking.
iii. The timing for this movement is simply, “ONE”, called out as the arms reach the side of the body.

Stand at Ease to Attention – “Squad, Atten – TION”
i. Purpose – used to bring the division to the position of Attention and continue with other movements (i.e. marching,
ii. Things to look for: a. carry the left foot to the right by bending the left knee, keeping the foot and lower leg relaxed;
b. straighten the left leg and place the left foot beside the right;
c. feet should be at a 30 degree angle as in the position of attention;
d. as the left foot touches the deck, both arms are moved to the side;
e. hands and arms revert to the position of Attention; and
f. balance body evenly on both feet;
iii. The timing for this movement is simply, “ONE”, called out as the left foot is placed on the deck.
ii. Things to look for: a. carry the left foot to the right by bending the left knee, keeping the foot and lower leg relaxed;
b. straighten the left leg and place the left foot beside the right;
c. feet should be at a 30 degree angle as in the position of attention;
d. as the left foot touches the deck, both arms are moved to the side;
e. hands and arms revert to the position of Attention; and
f. balance body evenly on both feet;
iii. The timing for this movement is simply, “ONE”, called out as the left foot is placed on the deck.
Colours/Sunset
Divisions fall in on their Div PO's Coxn calls the parade to attention and then stands them at ease Coxn takes attendance.
Coxn brings parade to attention and calls "MESSENGER" Messenger replys "COXN" Coxn says "COXN'S RESPECTS TO THE XO, SHIPS COMPANY FALLEN IN READY FOR COLOURS/SUNSET". The messenger replys "AYE COXN". And leaves to find the XO.
The Coxn then stands the parade at ease.
As the XO approaches, the Coxn will call the parade to attention and do an about turn. The XO will halt in front of the Coxn and the Coxn will salute. The Coxn will say "COXN REPORTING NLCC MICMAC, ___ CADETS ON PARADE, PERMISSION TO CARRY ON". The XO will say "YES PLEASE, CARRY ON".
The Coxn will march to his place and come to the halt. The XO will then stand the Corps at ease. This is the time to say anything that needs to be said.
The XO will bring the parade to attention and will Call "MESSENGER". The messenger will reply "SIR". The XO will then say "XO's COMPLIMENTS TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER, SHIPS COMPANY FALLEN IN READY FOR COLOURS/SUNSET". The messenger will reply "AYE AYE SIR', and will go find the CO.
The XO will then stand the parade at ease.
Upon the CO's approach, the XO will bring the ships company to attention and do an about turn. The CO will climb the dias and the XO will salute and say "GOOD EVENING SIR, XO REPORTING NLCC MICMAC FALLEN IN READY FOR COLOURS, PERMISSION TO CARRY ON"? The CO will say "YES PLEASE, CARRY ON".
The XO will call "SUPERNUMARARYS, INWARDS TURN"
The person on the ensign will salute the CO and say "COLOURS SIR"/"SUNSET SIR"
The CO will say "PIPE THE STILL". The piper will pipe the still.
Once the ensign is all the way up, the person on the ensign will again salute the CO and say "CARRY ON SIR", leaving his/her hand up until the carry on is piped.
The CO says "PIPE THE CARRY ON" On completion of the carry-on, everyones hand comes down.
The XO then says "SUPERNUMARARYS, OUTWARDS TURN".
The XO then salutes the CO and reports "COLOURS/SUNSET COMPLETE, PERMISSION TO CARRY ON WITH CLASSES". The CO says "YES PLEASE, CARRY ON". The XO salutes and the CO leaves the parade square.
The XO does an about turn and calls "FALL OUT THE OFFICERS". Then the XO calls "COXN". The Coxn says "SIR", and then marches to his place in front of the XO.
The Coxn Salutes and the XO says "CARRY ON WITH CLASSES". The Coxn will salute the XO and then the XO will leave the parade square.
The Coxn will then do an about turn and dismiss the corps.
